About

Plain-English information for people running charities on the side of everything else.

Third Sector Review exists for one reason: most guidance written for UK charities and community groups is either too legalistic to act on, or written for organisations far larger than the ones actually reading it. We try to write the version a trustee or part-time coordinator can read in ten minutes and actually use.

What we cover

Funding and fundraising, governance and compliance, digital tools, people and volunteers, and general sector news — always aimed at small and medium-sized organisations without in-house specialists in any of those areas.

Who's behind this

Third Sector Review is published by Third Sector Studios, a website, hosting and digital services company that works exclusively with UK charities and community groups. We built this site because the questions we were answering for clients; about funding pages, donation forms, GDPR, volunteer systems, kept turning into articles worth sharing more widely.

We keep the two properties separate deliberately: what you read here isn't written to sell you anything, and most of it is genuinely useful whether or not you ever work with Third Sector Studios. Where we do think a Third Sector Studios service is relevant to something we've written about, we'll say so plainly rather than leave you to guess.
